Whitley Bay Memories Week - 3rd to 7th August 2009

Whitley Bay Memories Week, in association with Tyne & Wear Museums, was a fantastic success with lots of people visiting CQ:HQ and sharing their photos, memories and reminscences about how Whitley Bay was in the past, and all the activities that used to be around.
The exhibit from the museums service was also extremely interesting with some objects that seemed to baffle us all as to what they were, but certainly provoked a lot of discussion.
The stock phrase that we heard regularly was “I remember when…” and having recorded people stories onto audio and in writing we are now looking to compile an archive which can be passed on to generations to come.

The event has been such a resounding success that we will continue to collect peoples stories, as well as programming further “Memories Exhibitions” within our gallery space, and for special events within our festivals calendar. Please continue to visit us and help us remember what Whitley Bay used to be like, and let us keep you informed of how we plan to change it in the future.
